For over 25 years, the Ethiopian real estate sector has struggled to satisfy the nation’s escalating housing demand in both scale and quality, impeded by fragmented coordination, weak regulatory oversight, and substandard construction practices, and further undermined by unethical conduct among some developers, including misappropriation of funds, project delays, and the provision of inferior housing, which has eroded public trust and constrained investment.
In response, the Ethiopian Real Estate Developers Association (EREDA) was founded in May 2024 and officially launched on June 7 at the Sheraton Hotel in Addis Ababa, under the leadership of Architect Kedir Seid and operational development by Engineer Jebel, uniting 26 founding members across diverse levels of experience and growing to 78 members to date. EREDA serves as a cohesive platform to advance ethical standards, strengthen financial and operational systems, foster technological innovation, and promote coordinated, sustainable urban development, with the overarching aim of restoring confidence, elevating industry benchmarks, and steering Ethiopia’s real estate sector toward professional, transparent, and forward-looking growth.
